Established in 1914, the Hong Kong Football Association (HKFA) is the national sports association for football in Hong Kong. We are committed to enhance football development in Hong Kong. Over the past years, HKFA has been effective in broadening the base of participants and expanding various development programmes on community football covering grassroots and youth football, women’s football and futsal. We provide coaching education and referee training courses to increase the supply of qualified coaches and referees to support player development and improve the standards of refereeing. We also organize football leagues, local and international competitions.

Based on the solid groundwork laid in the past years, the continual collaborations with football stakeholders as well as funding support from the FIFA, AFC, the Government of the HKSAR, the Hong Kong Jockey Club and other sponsors, we keep moving in the right directions for the implementation of our new HKFA five year strategic plan, namely “The Vision 2025 Strategic Plan”, which the major goals identified vary from increased participation opportunities for all , viz. “Football for Everyone” to a long-term target of a Hong Kong men senior team going to the FIFA World Cup in 2034.

We now call for applications to fill this position which is under the Technical Development Department in the organization structure of HKFA. Reporting to the Technical Director, the appointee will be responsible for the following:

This role targets the development and enhancement of performance analysis across three pillars of the Football Development Pathway;

Job Descriptions

Hong Kong Representative Teams:

  1. Organize and lead in the filming and accurate coding of matches / training, to output both team and individual metrics.
  2. Provide detailed tactical reports on own team and upcoming opposition to staff and players.
  3. Perform live coding and feedback during matches.
  4. Establish close and highly effective working relationships with Lead Coaching staff to deepen and sharpen analysis ‘eye’ and effectiveness of feedback to team and players in – line with lead coach and HKFA Philosophy.
  5. Use effective visualization tools to convey data driven findings, statistics and trends of our Hong Kong representative teams.
  6. Initiate and lead the growth of analysis within the Hong Kong representative teams via resources, workshops, seminars and development of strategic tools to both coaches and players.
  7. Provide benchmarks of key statistics for positions, styles, strategies, age groups, and feedback in group and individual settings.
  8. Assist in the continuing quality and growth of the HKFA Philosophy with footage, data and education resources, animations, videos as well as supporting a ‘best practices’ library.
  9. As an integral member of the technical team, provide support and constructive challenge to coaches in developing game plans, training session’s plans and game and session reviews.
  10. Support on the delivery of targeted projects which align with the HKFA Philosophy and strategy.
  11. Build influential relationships with players and coaching staff to ensure consistent engagement with actionable technical and tactical insights.
  12. Establish systems of work and ensure players are maintaining effective plan – do – review habits informed by evidence and insights.
  13. Ensure performance analysis equipment is maintained, that all operating systems, software and licenses are up to date and to consistently scan for tools that can assist in growth and development of the Performance Analysis development program.
  14. To train, coordinate and oversee the work of HKFA coaches, potential staff analysis interns, volunteers or external collaboration.

Club Development:

  1. To lead a systematic collection of metrics during youth elite games across boys’ and girls’ leagues to establish performance markers and an ability to reference and benchmark.
  2. Provide actionable insights and educational contents to the Hong Kong FA staff, elite academies coaches and coach education department.
  3. Build effective relationships with external organizations to assist in department growth and data collection.
  4. Inform club coaches of the trends identified during league collection and how these compare with worldwide trends and the Hong Kong Philosophy.
  5. Provide workshops, seminars, resource material, identifying key markers and statistics that inform practice prescription and learning to club coaches and coaches at all levels where appropriate, based off games coded within the leagues.
  6. Initiate the development of models of work within clubs and an understanding of the value in evidence informed approach to player development and performance.
  7. Establish a central database to allow longitudinal tracking of key metrics within the leagues over seasons to come.
  8. Lead operations and manage part-time/volunteer staff.

Coach Education:

  1. To grow and develop the quantity and quality of Performance Analysis understanding among Hong Kong coaches (HK representative and clubs)
  2. Proactively collaborate to develop new education pathways Performance Analysis related, including modules in current certifications or creating brand new specific pathways.
  3. Produce educational contents to delivered within coaching courses.
  4. Deliver education workshops on equipment / software / analysis and evaluations-based topics.
  5. Any other reasonable duties requested by Technical Director

Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree level qualification in sport science or related areas specializing in performance analysis.
  • Coaching license is an advantage
  • Data Analysis, Talent ID or other related certification are an advantage.
  • Sound football technical knowledge is needed.
  • Experience of delivering performance analysis with players and coaches
  • Experience and competence using a broad range of coding methods and software packages (Hudl, SportCode, etc.
  • A good understanding of a range of data visualization packages is desired.
  • Personable and good communication skills to engage an audience, with humility to work collectively with others.
  • Willing to self-evaluate, work unsociable hours, and travel for long periods when required.
  • Excellent presentation and delivery skills.
  • Experience of providing live match analysis in a stadium environment.
  • Forward thinking and proactive towards department and personal development.
  • Demonstrate honest, integrity reliability and the ability to ensure confidentiality
  • Possess strong time management and skills to have a flexible approach to work in multiple simultaneous projects under tight deadlines
